Christine Burns played a key role in the struggle for trans legal rights. including the passing of the 2004 Gender Recognition Act and the inclusion of trans people in the 2010 Equality Act. She has catalogued the recent history of trans people in her book, Trans Britain, Our Journey From the Shadows.
