The Arc is Long: 50 Years of Pride

Join the MOD DE&S LGBT+ network for their annual LGBT+ History Month seminar. The network will be hosting a number of sessions throughout the day and you can attend as many or as few as you want.


  • 09:00 - 09:45 – 50 Years of Pride A welcome and introduction followed by an exploration of policies towards LGBTQ+ staff in the Civil Service over the last 50 years.
  • 10:00 - 10:45 – LGBTQ+ in Media In this session we will explore how representation of LGBTQ+ people has changed in the media along with the difference between presence and representation.
  • 11:00 - 11:45 – LGBTQ+ Health A look at LGBT discrimination in the NHS and a comparison to the discrimination experienced in America’s health system.
  • 12:30 - 13:15 – Allyship An opportunity to discuss the concept of allyship and how we can all contribute to the advancement of LGBTQ+ inclusion and acceptance in the workplace.
  • 13:30 - 14:15 – Lived Experiences A chance to listen to the lived experiences of some of our members. If you’d like to share, please let us know in advance.
  • 14:30 - 15:30 – Q&A Session Your chance to ask questions to the Pride Committee and some of our colleagues in the D&I team.
